The Red Rubies Craft group wasn’t just stitching smiles today; they were creating comfort for those in need. Group leader, Mavis, proudly presented Jillian, the Table Top branch leader for the Red Cross, with a heart-warming donation of 93 handmade “Comfort Bears.”
These adorable, palm-sized bears are a thoughtful way to bring a little sunshine to grandparents facing illness. Small enough to tuck into a pocket, they offer a constant reminder of love and family.
Jillian was delighted to receive the bears and expressed her gratitude for the group’s generosity. She also shared the invaluable work of the Table Top branch, which extends far beyond cuddly companions. They offer emergency psychological support, helping people navigate difficult times during severe crisis, and even assist refugees with settling into their new Australian homes.
Inspired by this range of support, the Red Rubies are eager to embark on their next project: knitting Trauma Teddies. Jillian recounted the touching story of how this initiative began with a single teddy bear riding along with an ambulance officer. A child in distress found solace in the bear’s presence, sparking a wave of community involvement. These teddy bears are now provided to children experiencing trauma, offering a soft friend during a difficult time.
One of the Red Rubies members even shared a personal story, bringing the impact of trauma teddies full circle. Many years ago, after a car accident with her children, ambulance staff offered them trauma bears. Now parents themselves, the bears remain treasured mementos of the comfort received in that time of need.
